Queer Parents-to-Be Childbirth Prep Intensive
This intensive childbirth preparation course is designed to support Queer and Trans families. Throughout this course you will learn how to prepare for the childbirth process and how to be supportive during labor. You will learn comfort and relaxation techniques to ease labor discomforts.
This class will also cover initial chestfeeding, breastfeeding and bottle feeding. You will have an opportunity to connect with other families while learning about:
- Stages of Labor
- Natural Methods of Childbirth
- Medical Interventions and Medication
- Comfort Measures and Relaxation Techniques
- Postpartum Care

Yael Martinez is a queer Latina mother living in Oakland. She works in Maternal and Infant health with the Alameda County public Health Department and has been teaching at Birthways in Berkeley since 2013. She holds a Masters in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley and a BA in Sociology and Latin American Studies from Mills College. Yael is a Lactation Educator and is certified as a birth doula through Doulas of North America (DONA). She is also trained and certified as Childbirth Educator through Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). Yael has worked for over 15 years advocating for social justice for diverse communities and families in the Bay Area.
